Tumbling Forests of the North; Permafrost Thaw

2018 - present, collaboration with scientists at the Toolik Field Station, Alaska

'Tumbling Forests of the North’ is a project exploring how human impact affects (thawing) permafrost in the Arctic. This series documents the dramatic changes in the arctic landscape due to climate change. Some of these changes include: Drunken Forests, which are forests whose trees grow at every angle possible and Thermokarst Failures, tremendous sinkhole-like features in the tundra and forest floor. These destabilizing features are caused by permafrost thaw underground. This series explores the duality of these landscapes; the collapsing landscape in contrast with the intense vitality of the plants and trees growing in these compromised situations.
