The Underground Sound Project, Bay Ridge; Within The Upper Bay is an interdisciplinary project connecting visitors to the underwater soundscape of the Upper Bay. Some of these acoustics reflect the broader natural ecosystem of the bay while others are deeply affected by human impact.
Voices of three community members with strong ties to the bay are interwoven into the underwater audio piece, revealing our dynamic, complicated relationship with a complex sub-aquatic ecosystem.
A painting based on the rhythms and language of the sounds heard underwater is coupled with the recording.

Wing Cho, fisherman
George Jackman, retired NYPD police lieutenant turned aquatic ecologist, environmental activist and professor in ecology, evolution and behavior
Phyllis Ho, cold water swimmer

The Underground Sound Project is a series of underground recordings made by artist Nikki Lindt over the course of several years in soils, among plant roots, in streambeds, inside trees and more. Part of the series can be experienced in the form of a public art installation in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. It can also be experienced remotely online here.

Bay Ridge Through an Ecological Lens, is a public art exhibition hosted by Stand4 Gallery, and presented in collaboration with ecoartspace. It is curated by Jennifer McGregor. This interactive, public, community arts exhibition features artists from the New York area and consist of nature walks and community interventions in the gallery and in various locations throughout the Bay Ridge community.
